Gary Roberson
Burnham Brothers
Game Calls |
Gary Roberson
was raised on his family's ranch in South Texas were he began hunting at an early age. While growing up, his heroes were not the usual Bart Starr or Don Meredith, rather Winston and Murry Burnham of Marble Falls, Texas, the greatest hunters and game callers of all time.
Living on a ranch allowed Roberson to hunt on an almost daily basis and he took advantage of the situation. He killed his first whitetail buck at age seven while hunting by himself, began calling varmints at age ten and maintained a pack of bobcat and coonhounds at age 12. It seemed that if there was an excuse to go to the woods, Roberson would find it.
Gary rates coyote calling as his favorite hunting, however, he enjoys any hunting that involves calling an animal. He is a strong believer that "he who hunts the most, hunts the best" and is in the woods calling critters or following a pack of hounds at least 250 days each year.
Roberson and his wife, Deb have three sons. The eldest son, Clint, is the three time World Champion Deer Caller, winning the coveted award the first time at age 16. The Robersons purchased Burnham Brothers Game Calls from Murry Burnham in 1991 and continue to produce quality mouth-blown and electronic calls for all types of hunting. Gary hunts whitetail deer in Southwest Texas, mule deer in West Texas, Rio Grande turkeys in Texas and elk in New Mexico. He has called coyotes in fourteen states and Mexico.
Gary Roberson has been on Mossy Oak's Pro Staff for over ten years and has been featured in numerous outdoor magazines and television shows.

Les Johnson
Legacy Sports International
Pro-Staff
Host of Predator Quest TV
|
Les Johnson: My childhood was spent on a farm in south-central Nebraska. My summers were filled with fishing for catfish, walleye, white bass, etc. Hunting and trapping were the major activities for me in the fall and winter. One of my greatest passions whenever I was about 14 was to decoy ducks into shooting range. I loved to call and shoot my limit of “greenhead” or drake mallards on a cold November morning. As the winters progressed and waterfowl seasons closed, my attention turned towards coyotes and other furbearers. Most of my take came from trapping, but I always had an interest in outsmarting ol wiley coyote.
I started calling coyotes whenever I was 16, but little to no luck. I didn’t put forth much effort and thus did not reap any rewards. As I grew older, my curiosity for outsmarting coyotes became a larger priority. As I pursued a degree in Animal Science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, I could be found hunting/calling on most every weekend in the fall and winter months. I remember one particular time in which I came home from college on a weekend in which we received about 5-6 inches of fresh snow. Wanting to know more about what makes a coyotes mind tick; I wanted to track coyotes in the fresh snow to see if I could get within shooting range without spooking them. On this particular day, I managed to successfully take 3 coyotes just from tracking them. 2 of them could’ve been shot with a shotgun as they jumped up within 10 yards of me.
I tend to be a goal oriented type of person, and this is the point in my life in which I decided that I set forth my life’s ambition and passion, calling coyotes. I loved to call coyotes, and my brother and I started to compete in competitions. Many, many friendships were made from all across the country, and that is primarily what keeps me competing at this day and age. To date in the competition arena, I have a World Championship, 2 Midwest Championships, and 5 National Coyote Calling Championships to my credit. Numerous 2nd and 3rd place finishes as well. I have accomplished all that I could’ve ever wanted in the competition arena, and my focus and goals have turned more towards my television show, Predator Quest. My show, Predator Quest, won 3 awards my first year of airing. From The Sportsman Channel, Best Show Open and Best Small Game or Turkey Episode, and I won a silver Davey Award in a national competition with my show open.
Currently, I have begun working on my own line of Predator Calling Products, of which will be my own line of hand calls. I hope to have those released by fall 07 along with more predator calling DVD’s.
Some of my personal best records in predator calling include my Triple Crown Championship. Winning the World, National, and Midwest Coyote Calling Championships in the same season. 4 ½ days of calling competition, 3 different locations, 42 coyotes total. My brother Jeff was my partner in two of these competitions, the Midwest and National. Jeff has been a great part of my success and will continue to be a huge asset to my television show. I would not be able to do it without him. I consider him to be one of the best hunters that I have ever had the opportunity of hunting with, so thanks for all that you do my brother!
I am currently 37 years old and thankful for everything that God has graced me with! |

Freddie McKnight
2010 Speaker
|
Freddie McKnight grew up in the woods, fields and streams surrounding central Pennsylvania, a place he still calls home. He started writing an outdoors column in a local newspaper in 1993, and in 2003 walked away from a real world job to pursue a career in the outdoors. Today he owns and operates Working Man Outdoors, where he still writes but has added photography, videography and seminar speaking to his slate.
He has been able to travel extensively throughout much of North America, but predator hunting close to home is still one of the most cherished activities. He has learned the ways to hunt amid the growing human population of this area, taking numerous fox, raccoon and coyote along the way.
Penning a number of predator hunting articles each year, McKnight is frequently called upon for predator hunting seminars in his home state of Pennsylvania and beyond. He is best known for his extensive knowledge on hunting gray fox, a species that he feels gets largely overlooked by predator hunters in the east.
He has produced a DVD entitled Getting Started: Predator Hunting, aimed at informing want-to-be East Coast predator hunters with the knowledge they will need to get started in this exciting sport. He is also working on a night hunting production for future release.
McKnight currently resides in Shirleysburg, Pennsylvania with his wife Tammy where he can be found pounding away at the keyboard of the computer when not out in the woods or along the stream. |

Glenn Guess
2010 Speaker
FOXPRO Pro-Staff
Outdoor Writer & Personality
Field Editor for Boar Hunter magazine and Los Cazadores
|
I was born, raised and reside in North Texas. Even though no one in my immediate family hunted, I had a strong desire to hunt from a young age. I have always felt like "I was born to be a hunter". At the age of 13, my family and I moved to the country where the whole outdoors opened up to me. I soon became a "hound man", hunting rabbits and raccoons whenever the opportunity presented itself. Things would change at age 15 when I was introduced to predator calling by an older gentleman. This interest led to other hunting opportunities such as deer, turkey and hogs. Now I hunt everything Texas has to offer and more, learning to "call em in" instead of chasing them down. I have constantly looked for new ways to hunt and call predators, whitetails, turkeys and hogs.
Hog hunting came to me, I didn't look for it. I started seeing hog sign while coon hunting, but I didn't really pay much attention till I saw a field that had been plowed. It was obvious it hadn't been done by a tractor. A couple of years later while still hunting & stalking whitetails I stumbled onto some big hogs, I was so shocked at the sight of such beasts I didn't know what to do. A few weeks later while I spotted a group of hogs and was able to shoot a small hog. I was immediately hooked, beginning my obsession.
I have now taken hundreds of hogs by many different methods including callin' em in, night hunting, spot and stalk, flush and shoot, ambush, feeders, dogs and even traps. I spend over 200 days a year in pursuit of
one type of game or another. Specializing in hogs and predators; I strive to learn as much as possible about the nature of the animals, the sign they leave behind and what it means in an attempt to help myself and
others become more successful hunters. I feel blessed to be able to do so with my wife Michelle and our five children.
Glenn has appeared in predator hunting DVD's, on the Outdoor Channel hunting hogs and predators. He has written many articles involving hog hunting and predator hunting. He continues his obsession learning as he goes and sharing that knowledge at every opportunity with others. |

Dave Kaprocki
2010 Speaker
|
Let me ask you a few simple questions:
Would you like to learn:
How Kill more fox?
How to select, and set up properly at your calling site?
Scent-control techniques?
The proper calling sequence?
The proper use of your headlight?
Little techniques to lure the fox in close enough for a shot?
How to use the buddy system?
How to make the final shot count?
How to be more efficient overall?
These are a few of the questions I receive in most of my calling seminars. They seem to be repeated over and over, no matter where I'm speaking. This leads me to believe there is a large segment of predator hunters who simply don't have sufficient knowledge on how to be an efficient predator hunter. Yes, anyone can blow on a call and "get lucky" and call in a fox. However, it's the true masters of the sport that know how to make the kill, consistently.
In my seminars at the World Expo, it is my passion to answer all the above questions, and more. I will be showing you exactly what I do in each of these situations. My goal is to have you leave there with the knowledge, and understanding, of how to confidently become a successful predator hunter.
With that said, I'd like to officially introduce myself to you. Most recently, I've been writing about fox calling for several hunting and trapping publications (The Trapper & Predator Caller, Predator Xtreme), sharing information, and learning from others along the way. I also perform fox calling seminars for trapping and predator hunting organizations.
I am also a pro-staffer with Flambeau.
Hunting has always been in my blood. At the age of 10, I received my first gun, a BB-gun. With my new weapon in hand, every spare minute was spent in the woods chasing chipmunks and squirrels, at least until my parents found out. I then moved up to bow hunting for deer at the age of 12. Shot my first deer at 13 using my Bear recurve set at 40 pounds. Heck, that doe was bigger than I was.
In high school, hunting was already firmly ingrained in my soul; that’s all I wanted to do. Bow hunting deer became a “way of life” for me. It now continues to this day. With bow and arrow, I’ve taken deer, elk, and caribou, not to mention all species of small game, and even a turkey.
I became interested in foxes while running my trap line in high school. I purchased a Johnny Stewart record player with rabbit and crow recordings and have been going strong ever since. After serving in the US Navy in the early ‘70s, I picked up right were I left off.
Last year I published a fox calling book (The Ultimate Outfitters Guide to Fox Calling) and am promoting it as an outstanding resource for fox callers. Simply put, I would get discouraged by the same repeated questions at all my seminars. I felt this was a way to reach all sportsmen who struggle with predator hunting in general. I will have the book available at the Expo. Stop by and say hello! |

Mark Healy
2010 Speaker
|
Mark Healy is a second generation Arizona native who was born and raised in the mountains around Globe, AZ. Mark started calling predators in 1986 and in 23 years has called thousands of coyote, fox and bobcat. Most recently, Mark has turned his attention to calling mountain lions (AKA cougars, and pumas). In the past three calling seasons, Mark and his calling partner, Dave Martens, have called more than a dozen big cougars and have shot three.
Most people believe that calling a cougar is a rare predator hunting gift that only happens when calling other predators. However, Mark, who is a business systems trainer and an expert in referral based business models, always believed that lion calling success could be increased through a systemized approach with proper field scouting and animal research.
After many hundreds of library and field research hours as well as gathering data from other successful lion callers, Mark and Dave have developed a proven method for locating, and calling mountain lions. Once an area is determined to have a lion population Mark uses a combination of prey distress sounds and mountain lion vocalizations on his Wildlife Technologies KAS-2030-ML to coax these big cats out of their hiding places.
Mark will be talking about his proven methods of calling, scouting and hunting, the Mountain Lion, the animal that many feel is the pinnacle of Predator Calling in the lower 48. Do not miss this seminar and learn how you can shorten your time in the field getting the big cat to come to your calling!
Mark currently lives in Chandler, AZ with his wife Tracy and son Harrison. He supports his hunting habit with his Allstate Insurance agency and his business training and software company Referral Strategies. |
